MEA CULP
Mea Culpa: Shane Bonsujet’s Journey Through Healing and Reflection
Wester Gallery was proud to present Mea Culpa, a powerful solo exhibition by Melbourne-based artist Shane Bonsujet. Opening on Friday, 8th November, from 6–8 PM, Mea Culpa invited audiences to step into a deeply personal yet universally resonant exploration of psychology, growth, and self-reckoning.
Bonsujet’s work was raw and introspective, delving into the complexities of trauma, empowerment, and existential discovery. Through his layered, expressive compositions, he unearthed the emotional undercurrents that shape our personal narratives. Influenced by the natural world, philosophy, and the human condition, his paintings served as both confession and catharsis—a visual dialogue between past wounds and the resilience of the present.
At the heart of Mea Culpa was an acknowledgment of responsibility, an exploration of how we confront and reconcile our past. Through bold textures, abstract forms, and evocative color palettes, Bonsujet’s canvases pulsed with a kind of quiet urgency, demanding introspection. Each piece was an invitation—to step closer, to feel, to understand.
The exhibition was generously supported by Seasalt and Sage Catering, Young Henrys, Usher Tinkler Wines, Heaps Normal, and NON World, ensuring that the opening night was as much a sensory experience as a visual one.
Visitors joined us at Wester Gallery for an evening of art, conversation, and reflection. They were among the first to experience Mea Culpa and engage with the work of an artist unafraid to explore the depths of human emotion.
It was an incredible opportunity to witness Shane Bonsujet’s latest body of work—one that challenged, inspired, and lingered long after leaving the gallery walls.
