This collection of works, developed over two years of residencies and studio practice, exemplifies Thorby-Lister’s dynamic and experimental approach to landscape painting. Drawing from aerial maps, satellite imagery, and HAP databases, his site-responsive techniques push the boundaries of traditional painting, transforming landscape representation into a tactile and immersive experience. The shaped linens, exposed to the natural elements over time, absorb and reflect the textures of their environments—echoing mountain ridges, waterlines, fire-scarred terrain, and the ephemeral traces of floods. This emotionally resonant series underscores Thorby-Lister’s deep engagement with place, material, and process, capturing the raw imprint of nature through his distinctive, conceptual practice.
